MURDEROUS DESTRUCTION AT ORADOUR-SUR-GLANE
SOLDIERS GOING OVER THE TOP ON THE FIRST DAY OF THE BATTLE OF THE SOMME
About Historical Trips
Historical Trips was founded with the aim of bringing you tours that tell the whole story of some of the crucial episodes that defined our turbulent twentieth century. Our historians outline the cultural, social and political contexts lying behind these often cataclysmic events and our tours share many of the following characteristics:
• Original themes that are unique to Historical Trips
• Tours that are supported with detailed lectures
• Guides who are professional historians, experts in their fields
• Small and convivial groups
• Tours that are structured to tell complete stories
• Prices that include all breakfasts, dinners, museum fees and tips
In 2014 we are offering eight tours covering aspects of the First and Second World Wars, the Cold War, and the Spanish Civil War. These journeys range across France, Belgium, Germany, Spain and Poland.
2014 sees several anniversaries, including the commemoration of the hundred years that have passed since the outbreak of World War One. We are running two tours to mark this solemn occasion, a general history of the ‘Great War’ and a tour more narrowly focussed on the events of 1914. In both cases we will try to accommodate the wishes of tour participants who wish to visit sites associated with loved ones.
2014 also sees the 70th anniversary of events in the Second World War and we commemorate the sacrifice of the French Resistance, Allied Special Forces and innocent civilians in our ‘Road of Resistance’ tour. We will be in Oradour-sur-Glane and Tulle on the exact dates, when, seventy years ago, they were the victims of brutal Nazi reprisals in the aftermath of D-Day.
Finally, it is 25 years since the fall of the Berlin Wall and, in a new tour, we look at the intriguing history of the city of Berlin during the period from 1945 through to the dramatic end of the ‘Cold War’ in 1989.

Why travel with Historical Trips?
Although we visit the locations of some of Europe's most turbulent events, we are not a 'run-of-the-mill' battlefield tour company. Our top historians explain the historical complexities that lie behind the conflicts of the 20th century.
