If you made a New Year's resolution to learn something new in 2019, we have a range of fascinating Study Days on offer that will treat you to bite-sized amounts of expert knowledge in memorable locations around the UK. 

New for this year is our Cecil Lewis, Sagittarius Rising & the Royal Flying Corps Study Day, which will take place at the Army Flying Museum in Middle Wallop. We also have days led by the fabulous Suzannah Lipscomb, Colonel Paul Beaver and Dr. Emma Wells

So, whether you're interested in castles, the life of Henry VIII or the secret ways of spies, we have something for you. 

1) Cecil Lewis - a brand new Study Day:

  • All bookings receive a free copy of 'Sagittarius Rising' by Cecil Lewis
  • Pore over aircraft memorabilia at the Army Flying Museum
  • Join Colonel Paul Beaver on an exploration of the life and works of Cecil Lewis, co-founder of the BBC
  • Privileged access to the First World War Sopwith Pup fighter aircraft

2) Henry VIII with Suzannah Lipscomb: 

  • Visit key parts of the palace associated with Henry VIII in the company of Suzannah Lipscomb, former curator at Hampton Court Palace
  • Entry and lunch included
  • Exampine the architecture, visit the kitchens along with the State Apartments, and see the Young Henry VIII exhibition
  • Trace the stories of Henry's final four wives in sites related to their time with him

3) Salisbury Cathedral with Dr. Emma J. Wells

  • Meet in Salisbury and begin the tour at Old Sarum in the company of Dr. Emma J. Wells, where stories about the original site of the city will be shared

4) Spitfire Study Day at Biggin Hill

  • Go behind-the-scenes with a hangar tour, led by an engineer who works with Spitfires
  • Sit in the cockpit of a spitfire and watch as its engine is started

5) The Secret World of Spies in London with Dr. Boris Volodarsky

  • Join former Soviet spy turned espionage historian Boris Volodarsky on this unusual Study Day
  • See where the MI5 and MI6 historically operated from
  • Learn the meaning of 'spyspeak' code words
  • Discover a history of Britain's Secret Service, from Elizabeth I to the Cambridge spies

6) Everything You Need To Know About Castles

  • Each booker will receive a copy of Dr. Marc Morris' book, 'Castle'
  • Learn about the origins and developments of castles in Britain
  • Entry, refreshments and lunch at Dover Castle are included
  • Tour both the exterior and interior of this striking structure, hearing tales about it along the way
