Dr Hugh Doherty

Dr Hugh Doherty
We were indeed fortunate to have Dr Hugh Doherty as our guide lecturer. His knowledge, enthusiasm, energy and flexibility made the trip prefect. A born teacher, Hugh made the city come alive in so many ways.

Having cut his postgraduate teeth in first Cambridge and then Oxford University – where he became a Hugh Price Fellow of Jesus College – Dr Hugh Doherty now lectures in Medieval History at the University of East Anglia. As a historical researcher for the landmark Magna Carta Project he is currently involved in tracking down the rare surviving originals of King John's charters.

Hugh's specialist interests lie in the 12th and 13th Centuries, with a particular focus on the Plantagenets and Iberia. This expertise led to his appearance in BBC Radio 4's Making History series.
